The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has long advocated the importance of the recall of the basic facts. It includes “the mutually reinforcing benefits of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and automatic recall of facts” as factors that boost mathematical achievement. They go on to state that effort, not just inherent talent, counts in math achievement.
This set of materials is designed to help ALL your students develop fluency with these foundational facts. This set is centered around the teaching of facts through addition strategies versus memorization. Students will feel a sense of control over their own learning as they monitor and graph their own progress. Games are utilized as a way to keep students excited and motivated to practice. Parent communication is key so a parent letter and progress reports are included in this set.
All students are capable of learning mathematics.
