These reading and writing tasks are designed to give young students complex information in a simple, student friendly format. These tasks may be achieved through shared reading and writing, small group activities, or individual student work. (Detailed instructions are provided). This is an excellent way to expose developing readers and writers to rigorous tasks.

The articles make excellent close reading texts and are closely aligned to the kindergarten and first grade standards. While students may be able to read these texts independently, they were designed to be read with support (through shared reading experiences).
