The following is a sorting activity. It contains 2 panels. There is a panel for transitive verbs and a panel for intransitive verbs. The students are asked to read the sentences on the sentence lists. They look at the underlined word, and then determine whether the word is a transitive verb or an intransitive verb. The students must then cut the sentences from the sentence list out. Next, they place them on the correct panel.
This simple activity will help your students to distinguish between transitive and intransitive verbs.
I recommend printing the panels off on cardstock and laminating them. This way you can use them over and over again. Next, you can either make copies of the sentences and distribute them to each of your students or you can laminate the sentences and cut them out yourself. You can then place them in a plastic bag and have your students to sort them.
