Everything you need for a fabulous fashion history project. This lesson is perfect for a history class or a FACS/FCS/Home and Careers/HomeEc or fashion/textiles course. Students will tackle the Common Core concepts of main ideas and supporting details (ELA), pivotal moments in history (Social Studies), and the effect of history and social trends on clothing choices (FACS).
Students begin by exploring a quote from a significant era in American/World History. This quote is analyzed using guided questions in the graphic organizer, to determine its speaker, decade/era, and historical significance to that era. Students then will explore some major fashion trends of that era, and create a main idea to express how the fashion of a moment in history is representative of the political, social, and historical trends. The iPad App PicCollage (FREE APP) is then used to create a collage that highlights research findings.
PDF includes directions, graphic organizers, quotes to use, and rubric. Rubric and quotes are printed on post-it sized template to be printed on post-it notes if desired (instructions at top of page). You could also just print and use paper version.
