These Powerpoint slides were created to teach, practice and assess the mastery of facts to sums of 18. Many students have great difficulty learning their addition and subtraction math facts, and this "Singapore Math" based approach is a GREAT way to overcome that obstacle. In my dual language classroom, even my struggling ELL students were able to attain automaticity of their facts with this approach. All facts are taught in order beginning with make 5 and ending with counting on. Since math is a progressive subject, students will always add to their collect of flash cards. It is best to spend at least 2 weeks on each "concept".
The following handouts are included:
~ Fact Progress Monitoring Sheet (Students will use this visual representation to track their progress for each mini-assessment.)
~ Flash cards for each "concept": make 5, make 10, make 5 &10, doubles, doubles +1, add 10 and counting on
~Half page quizzes for each "concept": make 5, make 10, make 5 &10, doubles, doubles +1, add 10 and counting on
*** Tip: Write the answers on the back of the flash cards in highlighter. This will allow you to read the answer without it showing through during practice! :)
