This handout is used for a wonderful engaging health wrap up that teaches health concepts such as sodium, trans fat etc, as well as helping students learn how to make healthy choices and how to read nutritional labels. I have used this lesson with a variety of age groups including specials needs students and everyone was having so much fun!!! I've never seen a health class so engaged!
In this lesson you set your classroom up as a "court room" and divide the students into two groups ( one group being the defence lawyers, and one group being the lawyers trying to persecute). You, the teacher, will be the judge and the plaintiff is Ronald McDonald! He is on trial for not following the healthy eating practices in Canada's Food Guide or the American Food Guidelines. Students use the "evidence" ( the handout I have posted) to either defend or persecute Ronald McDonald. You as the teacher will be able to discuss health concepts as the "trial" proceeds!
