This game is loosely based on the game, Anomia, which is only available in English. I've changed the cards and the game rules. To play this game, place all of the cards face-down in the middle of the table. One player turns over the top card and the players compete to name an item that fits in that category. For example, if the card says "couleur", competitors may shout, "jaune" or "rouge". The first person to correctly identify an item that fits that category keeps the card. Each card has a symbol in the middle. The object of the game is to win at least one card with each of the eight symbols.
There are several categories with cognates where students name popular acteurs, musicians, or song titles. As you walk around the room, you can help lower-level learners identify the various categories. I have played with levels as low as French 3.
