Are you struggling with creative ways to get your students to add more descriptive details to their writing? Are you looking for a creative way to introduce expository writing to your class? Then this is the writing presentation you have been looking for.
This presentation has been designed to be used in the classroom over several days of writing instruction. It is a writing lesson centered around writing an expository essay about snowy weather as a favorite kind of weather. This presentation uses a guided approach having the students writing one sentence at a time while providing a teacher example on each slide. The teacher's sentence example models the effective use of strong verbs, vivid adjectives, similes, metaphors, and even varied sentence structure. This expository does follow an essay structure as seen below:
Paragraph 1 - introduction, stating the main idea of the essay
Paragraph 2 - First supporting reason
Paragraph 3 - Second supporting reason
Paragraph 4 - Conclusion restating the main idea
**Because this lesson is focusing on adding details and not so much teaching the structure of an expository essay or choosing just right reasons... all students have the same topic.. snowy weather is our favorite kind of weather. **
I have used this presentation in my 4th and 3rd grade classrooms and have seen my students be able to add creativity skills to an expository essay instead of just "stating the facts". I created this presentation using powerpoint but then saved it as a PDF. That way I can simply scroll through the "slides" as I am ready for the students to progress through the lesson.
I hope you enjoy it!
