This project is meant to encourage instrumental students to become more independent listeners while providing student researched real-world examples for students to listen to. This project works great following a concert, offering students the opportunity to create their own listening list for the breaks that often follow.
It asks students first to choose a myriad of concert musicians who play the same instrument they do, then has students narrow those down first, with facts required about each. Students are then asked to narrow down their list further to the musicians whose sound they like the best, followed by listening to examples of each musician’s sound and describing what they hear. At the end, students are asked to list interesting facts about their favorite musician, and note their favorite song they performed.
