Thank you for your interest in this updated short story unit. Any month of the year is the perfect time to introduce suspence and horror to your students! When I created this unit, I had three main goals in mind for my students: (1) To expose them to the elements of a short story, (2) To compare and contrast a short story with a novel, and (3) To gain experience in narrative writing skills .
Included in this short story unit are:
A lesson-plan overview for the entire unit, individual, step-by-step, lessons plans, activities, and a copy of the short story for the following:
Ghost Story, by Mark Twain
On the Sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter
The Birds by Daphne de Maurier
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson
The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
NEW - The Road Virus Heads North by Stephen King (Warning: Language Advisory - for older students)
It is always my goal to provide useful, easy-to-use lessons and units. Please make sure you download the preview for a free short story lesson plan to see if this is appropriate for your students. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.
