In Spanish! Celebrate the entire month of February with one convenient thematic holiday unit! You will find material for Groundhog's Day, Valentine's Day, Presidents' Day, and more. Start off the celebration on February 2nd by having the students create a groundhog that actually pops out of his "hole" to see his shadow. They can write about this experience on their groundhog-shaped stationery! There is also a groundhog paper bag puppet and art figure with moveable arms.
For Valentine's Day your students will love filling in a graph using heart candy, writing in a heart-shaped book, wearing their heart glasses, and counting on a heart numberline. There is a reproducible mini-book that features numbers and colors with a Valentine's Day storyline. A "heart dog" paper bag puppet and heart stationery are some of the additional activities for this special day.
Later in the month you will celebrate the birthdays of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and the rest of the Presidents with art figures, paper bag puppets, and covers for writing books: one shaped as the Presidential seal and another as the Liberty Bell. For Lincoln's birthday, give each student a penny and a graph. The students flip the penny 16 times (since he was the 16th President) and graph how many times it comes up heads or tails. They can then dress up as Lincoln and Washington by wearing their hat (and Lincoln's beard!). An American flag-inspired windsock can be used to celebrate any patriotic holiday and we include materials to hold an election in the classroom!
There are many other activities, including a February calendar so that the students can keep a record of all of the fun days in this short, but holiday-packed, month!
Each page is available as a black & white student reproducible as well as a full color teacher sample!
