Full Product Information:
*Groundhog Day Non-Fiction Editing/Proofreading Practice Pages
Proofreading and editing can sometimes be on of the more challenging tasks for kids, especially non-fiction writing.

These pages give students a list of the proofreading/editing marks to use as they read about groundhogs! Over the course of 5 days, students will read and edit 5 pages about the groundhog. Students will be learning a bit about the groundhog along the way, while also learning a LOT about editing.

Students will be asked to correct spelling, punctuation, as well as grammar in the engaging non-fiction texts.

*Groundhog Day Math Task Cards: Guess the Operation
One of the biggest challenges for my students right now is choosing the correct (and easiest) operation in a word problem. Multi-step word problems in particular!

This set of task cards helps students get some good ol' fashioned practice with multi-step, multi-operational word problems...and of course, they are Groundhog Day themed (but, because they are so cute, they can be used at any time of year!!

Included are 10 task cards, each with a word problem that asks student to think deeply about the operation(s) needed to solve. Using division, subtraction, multiplication, and addition, students will find the answer, and write this on their recording sheet.

Addition and subtraction are up to the hundreds place.
Multiplication is up to 'double digit times double digit.'
Division is up to 'triple digit divided by single digit.'
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Multi-Step Multiplication Word Problem Task Cards
Included are 6 multi-step word problems, which are mainly multiplication based.

Each of the questions is Valentine's Day related, but obviously can be used anytime of year.

When I used this with my kids, I had them show all of their work on the back of the card, and then write the final answer on the recording sheet, which is also provided. The answer key is also attached.

This activity took my class approximately 45 minutes to complete and to review.

*The Case of the Missing Valentine: A Valentine's Day Mystery Writing Prompt
A class in your school has a problem! Their Valentine’s Day box is missing. All of the cards, the candy, and the kind words from classmates are all gone! Where did they go? Who took them? And most importantly, WHY?

This writing prompt asks students to write about the case of the missing Valentine.

This packet is meant as a complete guide for your students to write this mystery writing piece.

To make things easy on you, simply print pages 3-14 for students. This includes the cover, directions for students, all graphic organizers to get students creative juices flowing, as well as the final writing paper.

Also included at the end of the packet are four different writing toppers. Students can choose one of these to color, cut out, and then place on top of their writing.

When we complete this in my room, we place this entire writing piece and topper on a piece of construction paper to display in the hallway. That choice is yours.

Valentine's Day Math Word Problem Craftivity for 3rd-5th Grades: CCLS Aligned
This Valentine's Day activity is a fun activity to keep your kids engaged and motivated, while also practicing common core standards math standards!

Included are two Valentine’s Day word problem strips (they are both the same set of problems, with the exception being that one is a boy and one is a girl). Students are asked to complete all five word problems, which can be solved with multiplication, division, and a little subtraction and addition.

These word problems are based on 4th grade standards, but will be helpful as a challenge for 3rd graders, and a great review for 5th grade students.

Steps:
1. First, I have students complete the problems.

2. After I check the kids’ work, they color and cut the strip. They can then glue this together.

3. You can hang this in the hallway as is, or paste the entire strip on construction paper.

4. There are also a few extras included, which students can color and hang around the outside of their Valentine’s strip.

(For extra fun, place some googly eyes on the Valentine’s kids!)

Have fun and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Martin Luther King Jr. Quotable Task Cards and Essay {CC Aligned}
11 Common Core Aligned Task Cards are included in this packet.

Students will work to read Dr. King's "I have a dream speech" as a class, while answering a task question which goes along with the reading.

Students can then either work together or with a buddy to complete up to 10 other task cards which each include a quote by Dr. King. Each one of the cards gives students a task to complete on the back of the card. The tasks may be writing, drawing a picture, or both.

This acitivity can be used in guided reading, small group reading, centers, or as a whole class activity. Students will need to analyze each of the quotes and pick apart the true meaning of Dr. King's words, which will challenge students immensely.

An essay prompt is also included at the end of this packet. Students will need to use the information they have learned, as well as the quotes to write an essay describing King and his true value to American history.

What Were They Thinking?: A Civil and Women's Rights Research Activity
Students will first close read a brief article on Women's and Civil Rights, while also having the chance to explore a bit more about these two interconnected topics. A graphic organizer is included to help students research and take notes about their findings.

Students will then take a look at primary sources from the Library of Congress and think "What Were they saying?" by filling in speech and thought bubbles that are embedded into each of the Women's Rights and Civil Rights themed pictures, photographs, and artistic representations.

On the back of each of the primary sources, students have a graphic organizer which they will fill in based on "What they see, What they Know, and What they still have questions about."

This is a student-centered, interactive activity that kids will have fun with, while also using their researching skills to discover more information on these topics.

Included in this are also two options for final assessment. Students can either complete the research-based essay or a presentation where students will teach the class the information he/she learned throughout.

Students will have no choice but to use their critical thinking skills during this interactive history project.
