Do you need some math centers for February? Here is the set that I made for my own first grade classroom! Some of the centers will help me review standards I have already taught; some will assist me in small group time as I teach new standards. In this set you will find EIGHT math centers to keep your students (and mine!) engaged all month long!
The centers included are:
1.) It's Valen-"time!": Students will record the times show on the task cards. I included three sets so you can differentiate as needed: time to the hour, time to the half hour, and time to the quarter hour. A recording sheet is included that will work for each set of cards! This center addresses 1.MD.B.3.
2.) Love Ya More!: In this center, students will use a dry erase marker to fill in the correct symbol to make the comparison of the two numbers true. Then they will fill out the recording sheet! I included two sets of cards. One set uses a more limited range of numbers less than 20 whereas the other set has greater numbers. This center targets 1.NBT.B.3. A recording sheet is provided.
3.) Lovely Treats: In this "sweet" center, students will solve the addition problems on their cards using the sorting mats and provided ten frames. Some cards are simple expanded notation whereas others are more challenging. The recording sheet will work for either set. This center addresses 1.NBT.C.4.
4.) The Great Groundhog Game: In this game (a version of Race to 100) allows students to have practice with adding 1 or 10 to a number as well as subtracting 1 or 10 from a number. The first student to get to 120 (springtime!) wins. The spinner and game mats are provided. This center addresses 1.NBT.C.5.
5.) President's Day Memory: Students will match sets of dimes and pennies with the corresponding value. If you're a Georgia teacher, this addresses our standard MGSE1.NBT.7. If you're not a Georgia teacher, never fear-this is the same skill as counting tens and ones (1.NBT.B2), just using a real life manipulative!
6.) Monsters Love Place Value: On the sorting mats, students will lay down the cards that represent the given number through expanded form, the number word, base ten blocks, and the numeral. Two different recording sheets are provided. This center addresses 1.NBT.A.1 as well as 1.NBT.B.2.
7.) Love You to the Moon & Back: Students will find the missing number in the number bond. There are 3 sets of cards for differentiation. One set focuses on sums to 10; one set uses sums from 10-20; and one set provides extra challenge using a two-digit number and a multiple of 10. The recording sheet will work for any of the three sets. This center addresses 1.OA.C.6 and 1.NB.C.4.
8.) "Owl" Always Love You: Students will practice sorting facts into fact families. There are 10 mats with sums to 10 and another 10 mats with sums to 20. This center addresses 1.OA.C.6 and 1.OA.B3.
I made each center in BOTH color and black and white because I understand that sometimes ink is a precious commodity! For each center there is also a center directions sheet (in color) that has a kid-friendly "I can" statement on it.
