Upper Elementary Grades Deserve to Participate in Holidays and Special Occasions / Events too!
Upper elementary grade level students have so many standards these days. The standards are numerous and often fairly complex. I have found myself over the last few years spending as much time as possible with the teaching and retention of these standards and less and less time on special holidays or events. I always felt guilty that I didn’t have a lesson or activity for my kids on certain special days.
I have given it a lot of thought and decided that I would introduce a Holiday Interactive Notebook. These interactive pages are for the month of February. This way I will always have something that we can do and not feel left out when we see the primary grades celebrating. This interactive notebook allows students to recognize and be a part of holidays and special events with little or no pre-planning on your part, or more importantly, without feeling guilty about getting your standards completed.
Most of these pages can be completed in a short period of time. Some of the pages can become a complete lesson, if desired. Students can relax and color on many of these pages, if time allows. The choice is yours.
If your class already uses an interactive notebook, have students use that notebook to complete their holiday pages. Of course, a whole spiral notebook can be devoted to just the holiday pages.
There are example pages included to show what the holiday interactive pages could look like.
I hope you and your class enjoy!
