Description

My Feed the Penguin Bilabial Sounds activity was such a hit, I created a language version!

In this activity, you get a large penguin, which you can use to have students feed their fish to the penguin as they complete tasks. In this mode of play, there is no winner. Alternately, you can use the smaller penguin mats. Give one to each student and have them place fish on the mats as they complete tasks. The student with the most fish on their mat at the end of the game is the winner.

In this activity, there are four target areas:

1. Associations: Ask students to “Name something that is ___” for each fish. If correct, they can feed the fish to the penguin. To make this activity more challenging, you may wish to ask students to name 2-3 items per fish.

2. Categories: Lay fish on the table with words facing up. Instruct students to find a member of a specified category. If they are correct, they can feed a fish to the penguin. If not, they lose a turn. Categories Included (6 fish/category): Vehicles, Furniture, School Supplies, Vegetables, Fruit, Dishes

3. Verbs (Present Tense, Present Progressive, Regular Past, Irregular Past): Lay fish on the table with words facing up or down. Instruct students to select a fish and use the printed verb in a sentence. If the sentence is syntactically and semantically correct, they can feed the fish to the penguin.

4. Antonyms: Lay fish on the table with words facing up or down. Instruct students to select a fish and read the word. If the student can name an antonym of the word, they can feed the fish to the penguin.
