Feed the Penguins
Numbers and Counting
"Feed the Penguins" has many fun activities for your students:
Pages 2-3 Cards for color matching and learning color sight words
Page 4 By making several copies, you get 2 activities in one. Cut out the fish and have the kids "Feed" the penguins by matching the fish color to the penguin color. Cut out a page in strips to use for patterning. Cut horizontally for AB patterns or vertically for ABC or ABCD patterns. Cut out the fish in squares to use for continuing the patterns.
Pages 5-8 Which sight word goes with the fish? Laminate and have the kids circle the color sight word that matches the fish.
Pages 9-10 Match the penguins with their fish. Laminate and draw a line to match the fish with his matching penguin.
Pages 11-16 Count the penguins on a card (cards have either the cardinal number or the sight word for numbers 1-12). Match the cardinal numbers to their sight words. Kids can also put the cards in numerical order using the sight words or by using the cardinal numbers.
Page 17 Big or Little Mat
Pages 18-19 Sort the penguins on the mat by size, big or little. You can also sort the penguins by color.
Pages 20-23 Use these large penguins for a felt or magnetic board to go along with any of your 5 Penguin poems or books. You could also glue the penguins to a popsicle stick and let the kids use as puppets during circle time as you read the poems or books.
Pages 24-26 Count the penguins on the card and "clip" the number that matches with a clothes pin.
