Description

UPDATED AND EXPANDED 4-21-18 WITH MORE LEARNING MATS. "Feed the Pig" is a game companion for the popular interactive game for young students where students feed the pig hamburgers as it's stomach grows and eventually pops open. Students roll the die, feed the pig colorful hamburgers and "click" his head waiting for his shirt to POP open. This game companion includes learning mats to focus students' play and give it purpose.

For example, If a student is working from the ADJECTIVE mat and rolls the die on yellow, he would pick an adjective from the "yellow" row such as "pretty." Students formulate sentences using the target word, identify 3 things that are pretty, or could identify 3 things that are pretty and one that is NOT pretty (Odd one Out).

The "YOU CHOOSE" Row can be used when students roll the die and land on the the rainbow side of the die or could also be used when all 4 hamburgers of one color have been fed to the pig but he/she still rolls that color. For example, if the student rolls a purple but all the purple hamburgers have been fed to the pig, the student could go to the bottom of the page and choose a target word from the YOU CHOOSE row.

You can target a variety of speech and language goals during one session by passing out different mats, or use one mat and adapt it for the entire group of students. For example, the CATEGORIES mat can be adapted to use with articulation carryover, category inclusion/exclusion, describing and guessing games, fluency in structured context, and sentence formulation targeting syntax.

(ex: CRUNCHY FOOD-"Crackers, chips, popcorn, and tacos are all crunchy foods, but a strawberry is not crunchy.").

Learning mats in this product can also target: receptive and expressive language, academic vocabulary, fluency strategies during semi-structured activities, social/pragmatic language, and multiple articulation phonemes.

Several of the learning mats can be used as “spring boards” for discussion and language expansion. For example, once your client identifies a category such as “fruit, vegetable, furniture,” ask your client to name additional items that would also fit into the category.
