This module is to be used after Section A on Fear/Anxiety. In this lesson we look at the emotion of sadness. As with our other emotions, the feeling is normalized and shown in various expressions on several different people -- from crying to curling up in a ball to holding your hands to your head. We go on to talk about the feeling of depression and how it differs from that of sadness. The duration of the feeling is discussed in that it will go away, sometimes with effort, whereas anxiety may go away quicker, sadness may last for a few days. The ”symptoms” of sadness are explained – appetite problems, sleep problems, concentration problems, energy problems and negative thinking. We end our discussion by looking at the possibility that some sadness may be related to changes in our brain chemicals.
