Are your students able to apply decoding rules to short words, but falter when they reach bigger words?
This green owl-themed game, perfect for St. Patrick's Day, gives kids practice chunking multisyllabic words in a fun way! Each card has a multisyllabic word with slight spaces between syllables or other small word parts to help students build confidence and skills decoding longer words. This pack features specific prefixes con-, un-, pro-, de-, and non-.
Students take turns drawing cards. If they read the card correctly, they get to keep it! They have to watch out, though-- they may find a Tricked! card that makes them give some cards back, or a Lucky! card that gives them extra cards from the pile! The surprise of the Tricked and Lucky cards add some suspense to the game and the students LOVE playing it in a center!
This version includes 8 cards featuring each prefix: con-, un-, pro-, de-, and non-, as well as "Lucky!" and "Tricked!" cards to spice up the game!
