Posters for speech rooms or for classrooms. Designed for students to use as a guide to improve and expand the use of feeling vocabulary words.
10 different target feelings and an additional poster for students to write any feeling words they come up with that are not included in the posters. (Students love to write new words and sign next to the word).
I have used these posters in my speech room for 8 years and I am always amazed with how quickly my students learn many of these vocabulary words. The posters have really made learning and using feelings vocabulary fun. When analyzing a story or a character, my students love to go up to the posters and pick a word that "kids in older grades" would use. They love the the fact that some of the synonyms are graded and color coded to show different intensities of an emotion.
Feeling words are important for story comprehension, story retell for creative writing and for conversation. Many students tend to use only the feelings: "happy", "sad". or "mad". Improving vocabulary of feeling words can help students with comparing and contrasting how a character feels in the beginning, middle and the end of a story. It can also help learn cause and effect.
I have had a great deal of success with the posters with children with learning disabilities and with children on the autism spectrum, as well as with children with language delays.
Great for use with Story Grammar Marker from Mindwing Publications.
