This English language arts, poetry, and writing product has been created as a way to help 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students explore the range and depth of their feelings and emotions, specifically on how being happy, angry, stressed (worried), hopeful, dishonest, brave (courageous), disrespectful, lonely, shy (bashful), bullied, sad, exhausted, and embarrassed affects the heart. This sixteen (16) poem resource is a perfect tool for teachers, school counselors, parents, therapists, paraprofessionals, group-home personnel, or anyone who works with upper elementary school-aged children.
How It Works: Students practice reading originally written, focus-based poems either independently, or as part of small group sessions, as a way of helping themselves to process any emotional responses they may have when dealing with life’s typical, everyday situations. All poems are exactly one page in length and most have been written in first person point of view. Reflection journal pages and lesson extension printables are also included.

*INK SAVER ALERT! But for a few nonessential pages, this product has been produced entirely using black and white ink. You may choose to choose to copy the student covers, table of contents page, and poems on bright, colored paper to give them a look that "pops!"
*The poems are quite long in length. For this reason, they SHOULD NOT be read for fluency and decoding practice, but for oral language development, comprehension (understanding), and the text-to-self connection piece that each poem provides.
*PAPER SAVER! As a way to save paper, you may wish to copy the pages of this product (with the exception of the cut and paste activity) back-to-back (or 2-sided).
