Understanding Emotions and Feelings can help readers comprehend on a much higher level. Understanding our own feeling and connecting them to a character makes children enjoy reading and learn so much more! Children can get caught up with just a few feelings... like happy... boy I'd like to throw that one out! But for a first grader, it's a great place to start! I hope that they are all happy! :)
This product examines 12 feelings/emotions, gives definitions and examples that your learners can relate to.
I also like for students to compare emotions like happy and excited. They are similar but not exactly alike. Of course, they need to compare opposite emotions like happy and sad.
You could hang the posters as is or use them as a guide to make anchor charts... I like for my students to add sticky notes to my anchor charts when they read about a character experiencing that emotion. It's a great way to keep the discussion going since it is such an important one.
