This is a 3-part lesson.
Part I: An explanation of Feminist Criticism is provided with a list of common assumptions. Students are asked to give some thought to the explanation then answer the three questions about this critical perspective. The fourth question for Part I is a chart for students to complete indicating if they agree or disagree with four of the common assumptions associated with Feminist Criticism.
Part II: Students are provided a brief explanation of how people generally assign gender roles. Students are then asked to group a list of words according to gender association. Then students have to apply the feminist criticism lens to someone or a situation they are familiar with.
Part III: Students complete a graphic organizer by analyzing 3 scenarios or situations from everyday life using a feminist perspective. There is a menu selection of scenarios for students to choose from. Students are also given the option to think of their own scenario.
