After reading a biography (or autobiography) of their choice, give this assessment instead of having them write a boring book report! Students create a national or international festival in that person's honor, complete with activities, music, and a menu! Students must use persuasive writing techniques to prove to the "committee" that the person they read about is worthy of a festival in his/her name. Teachers can customize this project so that students create a booklet or a PowerPoint presentation. Teachers can have students present their festival plan to the rest of the class and students can vote on the best plan.
