Knowing ABC order is an important skill for all students. It is a practical skill in the library, especially when it comes to putting our books on the shelf. Use this activity during library class to have students practice with their ABC order. There are 6 different sets of cards. Each set contains eight different call numbers in which the students can put in order. The call numbers on these cards consist of FIC (for fiction) and then the first three letters of the author's last name. There are some blank cards as well, for you to fill in your own call numbers.
One idea for using these task cards is to put a set on each table. Put students into groups and have them put the cards in order. When all are finished, students move to the next table to practice with a new set of cards.
