Students typically don’t enjoy the business of revising… or editing. I can hear their complaints now,
"But Ms. Neves I already wrote my story…why do I have to rewrite parts of it again?!"
"I hate punctuation! ... I hate writing!"
And, actually, as an adult who writes, I don’t really enjoy these processes of editing and revising either. But, what makes editing and revising easier for me, is the use of checklists. I use checklists in pretty much every aspect of my professional life including and especially writing. I used checklists when I wrote for a magazine and I use them now to plan lessons. They are a great tool, and they help me prevent brain overload – something I also want to prevent for my students.
