This packet is my 3rd grade genre unit but it could easily be taught in 2nd and 4th as well. I teach each one genre per week for 5 weeks, followed by a 1-2 week final project in which students share their learning. Each lesson is structured the same way so students know what to expect but a different genre is covered and different books introduced. I have done these lessons for observations. They have clear objectives and an assessment and are also a great way to introduce different types of books in the library and get kids excited about trying something new!
Final projects included are genre word clouds, genre posters, and genre advertisements.
