PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This bundle is my entire Fiction Genre unit. I typically teach this in third grade but you could use it with 2nd-4th. I teach one lesson on each of five fiction genres historical fiction, realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and mystery), give students the option to participate in a genre passport project throughout the unit, and end the unit with a 1-2 week final project. The unit in total takes me six to seven 30-minute library lessons, depending on the final project. My thirty minute library classes are a 20 minute lesson and 10 minute book check out.

Materials Included:
1) Fiction Genre Lessons and Exit Tickets: lesson plan applicable to 5 genres, elements of each of 5 genres (historical fiction, realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and mystery), read aloud suggestions for 5 genres, exit tickets for 5 genres, 3 final project ideas
Lesson Objectives: Students will be able to identify elements of a fantasy/mystery/historical fiction/realistic fiction/science fiction story.

2) Fiction Genre PowerPoint: PowerPoint presentation for 5 lessons on fiction genres including realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, mystery, and fantasy

Lesson 1: introduce the concept of genre and the first genre you will be studying, realistic fiction
Objective: Students will be able to identify elements of the realistic fiction genre.
Lesson 2: introduce science fiction genre
Objective: Students will be able to identify elements of the science fiction genre.
Lesson 3: introduce historical fiction genre
Objective: Students will be able to identify elements of the historical fiction genre.
Lesson 4: introduce mystery genre
Objective: Students will be able to identify elements of the mystery genre.
Lesson 5: introduce fantasy genre
Objective: Students will be able to identify elements of the fantasy genre.

3) Fiction Genre Passport: instructions, Common Core Connections, connections to AASL Standards, two versions of the passport instructions: one says students will get a prize, the other encourages students to collect all their stamps with no mention of a prize, passport in full page and tri-fold sizes

4) Fiction Genre Bookmarks: genre bookmarks for fantasy,
mystery, science fiction, historical fiction, and realistic fiction in color and black and white, link to coordinated genre posters freebie
