Here is a product that contains over 60 journal entries for students to write about after reading fiction material.
Laminate [optional], run off mutilple copies on stock paper, and cut. These prompts may be cut individually or cut out in strips and handed out to students.
In addition, students can either keep the collection at their seats or draw one from a container of journal entries. Better yet, have students paste prompt they are using to the top of their journals. A final suggestion is to use one prompt for the entire class. This will generate a discussion and encourage all students to benefit from each other's writing.
Entries vary in scope and difficulty while supporting the issue of differentiation, and the CC standards. These prompts can also be used as a "do now" or mini writing assessments. In any event, these prompts will afford your students with daily independent writing practice.
