Holding students accountable for what they’ve read is a critical part of the learning process. Students will learn to love reading when they can choose the text they want to read. You, the teacher, can make sure that students are comprehending the text they are reading by having them record their thinking in a response journal.
This response journal give students an opportunity to answer
questions about the chapter they’ve read, show their comprehension through illustration and make connections with what they’ve read with their own lives. It has been created to work with any fictional chapter book. You can duplicate pages with questions you like or for longer chapter books or remove pages to fit a shorter chapter book.
