This complete unit includes a Powerpoint that clearly teaches students about the various points of view in fiction, how to recognize genres, identify the theme in a story, and finally how to observe how and why characters change in fiction. Throughout the Powerpoint presentation the students are given interactive class quizzes and turn and talk tasks.
Also included are printable original formative assessments that correspond with the knowledge and skills the students gain from the Powepoint. In these printouts the students will be asked to:
-Identify narrator point of view across various fiction excerpts.
-Identify genre across various fiction excerpts.
-Identify theme across various fiction excerpts.
Additionally a template sheet for tracking change in characters is included for students to use with their current book that they may be reading in class. Alternatively I also recommend using the short stories from the book "Every Living Thing" by Cynthia Rylant with the templates. (I personally used the stories 'Retired', 'Drying Out', and 'Shells' from the book and it went great!)
