My philosophy on teaching is that if kids can’t learn the way we teach, we must teach them the way they learn. (Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?)
I use these Fiction Text Elements Response Pages as an “exit ticket” after reading a fiction text. It's a quick review of the text elements we’ve covered in our reading workshop and guided reading lessons, and keeps students accountable for their independent reading.
Each page covers a number of fiction text elements, such as
• Author’s Purpose
• Character Traits
• Point of View
• Problem and Solution
• Text Type, and
• Compare/Contrast to another text
These five response pages are differentiated to cover a wide range of text elements, and even include a two-sided version to accommodate for your students who need a bit more space when they write.
It’s free of busy distractions, like fancy clip art and hard-to-read fonts. Special needs students are not the only ones who benefit from a clutter-free paper!
