Product Description
I developed this set of pocket chart cards to help my kindergarten and 1st grade students understand the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. Understanding the different characteristics of the two texts is an important foundational literacy skill that plays a role in both reading and writing.

Included in this set are two stories, made up of ten cards each. "Animals in the Winter" is a non-fiction story about how animals survive in the winter. "Kitten's First Winter" is the fictional story of a kitten looking for help to make a snowman.

Students sort the story cards under the heading cards “non-fiction” and “fiction.” Also included are two full page posters summarizing the characteristics of fiction and non-fiction texts.
