PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I developed this set of pocket chart cards to help my kindergarten and 1st grade students understand the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. Understanding the different characteristics of the two texts is an important foundational literacy skill that plays a role in both reading and writing.

Included in this set are two stories, made up of eight cards each. "All About Fall" is a non-fiction story about the changes we see in fall. It includes beautiful fall photography from Arts 'n Pix. "Mouse Gets Ready for Fall" is the fictional story of a mouse getting ready for fall by finding food to store.

Students sort the story cards under the heading cards “non-fiction” and “fiction.” Also included are two full page posters summarizing the characteristics of fiction and non-fiction texts.
