An essential library skills lesson packet that helps students determine the difference between fiction and nonfiction books.
Includes a Powerpoint presentation, discussion guide, pasting activity sheet, and worksheet.
*The pasting activity requires outdated book vendor catalogs to have students sort and choose book covers that are fiction, and ones that are nonfiction. Instead of tossing these out; this activity provides a wonderful way to incorporate them into a lesson.
****This is a complete lesson packet that has been used successfully in a Virginia library classroom for several years.
It can be used with all elementary grade levels and modified for younger students.
For modification: Following the presentation, you might read two books; one that is fiction and the other, nonfiction. For example, you might read the book, Click Clack Moo, which features fictional farm animals, followed by a nonfiction book about farm animals. Then lead students in a discussion to determine which book was fiction and which was nonfiction, while also discussing the differences.
