Plot and summarization using "The Flowers" by Alice Walker.
I introduce plot with my "Paul the Plot Man," where each part of his body represents an element of plot (ex: top of head = climax because the top of your head is important)
Then, students do a prereading activity, during reading stop and jots, as well as the elements of plot chart.
After reading students summarize the story with a "somebody wanted but so" chart. After that, the students answer 4 STAAR (multiple choice) plot related questions.
