→ Test your students’ knowledge of literary genres with this two-part fun activity!
This resource highlights the main characteristics of each genre and has the students look for these key components in their texts.
→ HOW to use:
Find a fiction and nonfiction text (can be books, Time for Kids articles, short fiction passages, etc.). Then, split students into pairs or groups and have them read each text while filling out their characteristics search.
Your students will =
- identify which text is which genre
- find the different elements of each genre (narrative elements for fiction and text features/main idea for nonfiction).
- After this, students will move on to the second part where they will summarize the difference of each genre in paragraph form.
→ WHAT to use for: You can use this as an extension activity, a review before a quiz/state assessment, a center activity, a timed race between classmates, or even a refresher in September!
HAPPY TEACHING :)
