This compressed folder contains two products. The first of which is a SmartBoard presentation on the similarities and differences between fiction and nonfiction. The presentation uses the familiar elements of fiction to help introduce the nuances of nonfiction. The presentation was designed with the 8th grade common core curriculum in mind. Students need to have the basic knowledge of the literary triangle and other components of fiction to fully understand the comparisons.
Furthermore, the presentation has key words underlined, so that students can follow along and fill in the provided guided notes. The guided notes are formatted as a chart. Thus, students can see the comparisons side by side.
I have found this particular lesson extremely helpful in my own classroom to introduce our nonfiction unit. If any of you are using the Elements of Literature textbook, these notes fit perfectly with the introduction to Collection 5.
