Fictional Narrative Story Writing Unit: 4 Weeks (Grade 6 CCSS)

This is a four-week fictional narrative writing unit I wrote for sixth grade. I wrote this unit for our district and the plan is followed by all the sixth grade writing teachers so the lessons are written to be easily followed day by day without prep work. During this unit, children write one realistic fiction story.

The unit is based off of Lucy Calkins’ Writing Fiction: Big Dreams, Tall Ambitions.

Included:
1. 23 lesson plans. These are scripted and follow the writing workshop model.
2. Proficiency checklist and rubric to score the final stories
3. Smart Board slides to accompany the lessons. These are also included as PDF files if you do not have a Smart Board.
4. Student Written Story (Proficient Example)
