This worksheet allows students to use a primary source document to learn about the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The primary source document is written by Fidel Castro and he is asking for the Soviet Union to use nuclear weapons against the United States if Cuba is invaded. This letter written by Castro is shocking and full of passion. This letter is a great way to get students interested in the Cuban Missile Crisis and to see the event from Castro and Khrushchev perspectives.
Students read the document and answer the questions on the worksheet. The worksheet includes 10 questions and has an answer sheet for the teacher. The worksheet can be used to generate classroom discussion or be used as homework. Feel free to modify this assignment as needed for your classes. My students always enjoy reading this primary source and it makes them more interested in the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War in general.
