Magnetic Field Force on the Movement of Objects:A Magnet and Paperclips - A Differentiated Lesson
In this investigation students will be working towards the following tiered goals in differentiated groups or individually:
Basic: Student will state clearly that the force of a magnet acts in a field around the magnet in all directions and weakens with distance from the magnet.
Middle level: Student will accurately state the relationship between location in a magnetic field and strength of magnetic force. Given an example the student can predict the outcome of placing a magnetic object in a specific location of the field (speed and direction of movement, amount of force).
Superior: Student can explain, using examples, the relationship between location in a magnetic field and magnetic force as well as location in magnetic field and velocity of attracted object. Given experimental data student can accurately predict how the data would change if the type of magnet, distances from magnet, or mass of object was altered. Student can predict location in magnetic field from provided data.
