Overview: This field journal requires students to go outside, take a soil sample, and make observations. It provides students a chance to be reflective and scaffold the concepts learned in the classroom to that in the field. Students can work alone, in pairs, or in small groups to complete the activities in a 40 minute class period. Students should be provided with small trowel for taking a soil sample, a clip board, and colored pencils. Soil concept vocabulary should be discussed prior to heading out into the field.
