Let Silence Do The Heavy Lifting.
Insight occurs in the space between words. When there is no space between words, and when one or two individuals dominate the conversation, we are likely to end up water skiing over the surface of the topics on the agenda, versus scuba diving to go deep. We leave the meeting with a sense of having missed the mark, not having addressed the real issue or contributed at the level we would have liked.
Important conversations require moments of silence during which we may reflect on what someone has said, and consider our responses, before opening our mouths. This does not mean we adopt the silence of non-participation of avoiding topics that are uncomfortable. It means that when questions is asked, we give ourselves and others time to reflect and respond.
This bundle includes three introductory activities to Fierce Conversations, as well as three activities that take roughly 20 minutes each to complete. In Principle 7 students will learn how to recognize the importance of silence in a conversation and slowing down to listen.
