This assignment has students write their own poem modeling William Stafford's poem "Fifteen". The extension is that the students have to find a song or part of a song that has the same theme/idea as their poem.
They bring in the lyrics and have to write a paragraph about how the two are similar. For the final product, they glue their poem, the song lyrics, and the paragraph on a sheet of construction paper. (Apparently I like construction paper!)
This is more of a creative writing assignment because I do not require them to use poetic terms. It has two poems that I WROTE (so please leave copyright) and a finished example.
