Standard: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.
Fifty one-sentence topics for students to practice writing. These work well for student to practice, review, remediate forming an opinion quickly, writing an introductory and summarizing sentence. Organizing ideas well, adding details to support their opinion, transitioning from one idea to another, proofreading their work, revising as is necessary, using good punctuation, and preparing for assessments.
Appropriate for grades 3 through 12.
Examples of topics:
Children in day care should be taught how to read.
Mail delivery on Saturday should be stopped immediately.
Daylight Savings Time (DST) should be stopped beginning this year.
