Because my upper level students are preparing to read Bendíceme, Última by Rudolfo Anaya, I've been working on discussing the role of women in Mexico and some key figures in Mexican history and lore. These figures are mentioned throughout the novel so I decided put all of it together in story form to get my students thinking about the role they play in society and culture. This worksheet features 2.5 pages written in Spanish that students read about mothers, la Virgen de Guadalupe, la Malinche (Doña Marina / Malinalli), and la Llorona and then 30 reading comprehension questions to check for understanding.
