Lessons include: similes, hyperboles, rhetorical questions, idioms, metaphors, & personiification. This powerpoint is an excellent tool to use when introducing students to effective ways of beginning any writing assignment. The use of various figurative language and writing techniques will grab a reader's attention from the beginning and keep it through the introduction of both narratives and expository text. Included in these 32 frames are:definitions, examples, guided practice, challenges for independent practice, white board activities, attention grabbing animation, and silly ways to remember these lessons. Pages, that provide the perfect challenge for students to work on in their journals (I refer to them as their "Treasure Books"), are noted with a picture of a "treasure chest". The final page is meant for teachers to print out and distribute to each student. It notes definitions and examples of all key points in the lessons. It is organized for easy cutting and pasting into student journals for their future reference.
This powerpoint is not meant to be used in one class period, instead it should be used in segments and prepares students well for not just state tests but for real life!
