I love teaching students about the ways authors write using figurative language, but often had a challenging time finding examples in actual text. I have written 6 reading comprehension passages that focus on a style of figurative language each passage.
You will be able have your readers focus on the following:
Use the reading passages to show your readers examples of each of the styles of writing, and get a comprehension grade. Each passage has minimum, an example of each of the styles per paragraph. The passages are silly made up stories, to keep your student engaged while reading, and notice each of the figurative language styles.
I use these passages in small group, tutoring, and independent work. One way to see if your readers understand each of the reading styles is to have them highlight the similes, metaphors, idioms, hyperboles, personification, alliteration and onomatopoeia examples they find in the text.
This packet contains multiple choice questions for you to challenge your readers. Each passage contains 7-8 comprehension questions.
I hope you find the packet useful in your classroom. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
If you like these reading passages, I have many more in my store that you may love as well!
