Figurative Language is by far one of my favorite topics to teach! It is so fun to make it interactive and engaging! I created these products to help create an engaging learning environment to help teach figurative language concepts!
Figurative Language Passport:
Each time you teach a skill or students learn a skill, they practice their skill in their passport or by using one of the graphic organizers. Once they finish and you know they understand they skill, they get a "sticker" for their passport! The "stickers" can be printed on plain sticker paper and cut out OR just printed on paper and the students glue them in!
Passport includes a page and sticker for each of the following:
When I teach figurative language in my classroom, I teach through picture books! There is a picture book list for each type of figurative language to help introduce and teach the concept. While teaching the concept, we identify the figurative language in the text and write them on an anchor chart or SmartBoard. Students then can choose one of the figurative language pieces from the text to work with on their graphic organizer OR create their own OR find their own in an alternative text!
The graphic organizers include all of the above as well. They allow students to practice writing their own figurative language, identifying figurative language in a text and understanding them.
This is a fun product to help students review and practice the different types of figurative language through popular songs! There are 24 task cards with OR without QR codes to check the answer.
