The types of figurative language are separated into three sets:

Set 1: 3 Spinners for similes and metaphors only
Set 2: 3 Spinners for hyperboles and personification only
Set 3: 4 Spinners for all four types

To “play” the center, the students will use a pencil and a paper clip to spin either spinner. The students will read the phrase they land on. Each time they spin the same phrase, they will complete a different task with that phrase.

1st Spin: What type of figurative language is being used?
2nd Spin: Prove how you know it is that type of figurative language.
3rd Spin: What does the figurative language used in the sentence mean?

Answer keys for the centers and a recording sheet are included.
